First recognized as the "Best Company" in 1982 at the International Dance Festival of Paris, Elisa Monte Dance combines a unique artistic vision with vigorous athleticism. Elisa Monte, a former principal dancer with the Martha Graham Dance Company, Lar Lubovitch, and Pilobolus, has created over 45 works in her career as a choreographer. LTCA is thrilled thatElisa Monte Dance will present their fun, enigmatic piece titled Feu Follet, meaning "crazy fire," referring to the strange marsh lights seen on the Louisiana bayous. Originally commissioned in 1995, the New York Times called Feu Follet "an imaginative and loving look at the history and culture of the Cajun people." With an original score written by Richard Peaslee, the seven dancers depict the travels and struggles of a culture with roots in France and Canada, but its heart and soul in Louisiana.
