To mark the anniversary of the founding of St. Petersburg comes the première of this two-act ballet, created by the American choreographer Lar Lubovitch based on themes from Pushkin’s narrative poem The Bronze Horseman. The production will feature music by Glière, although it will be his Symphony No. 3 rather than the music from his ballet based on the poem. The choreographer, inspired by Pushkin’s work, has said that he will strive to create a fitting tribute to the brilliant Russian poet and to the beauty of the country’s northern capital. Pushkin’s tragic tale will be related through the language of contemporary choreography.
